Marilyn believes everyone should pay a fair share of our tax burden—whether or not we agree with government policies. “Despite all of its flaws, it is a better system than any other in the world.” However, there is a great deal that we can do to control the “fairness” of our share.
Raised in conservative Kansas soil, Marilyn’s father was a small business owner with frequent run-ins with the IRS. Seeing the inequities of the system, she determined early-on to understand and dominate the system.
“I could have gone to law school to learn the law, but that just wasn’t my way of doing things.”
Working with both wage-earners and business owners, Marilyn learned from a grass-roots approach both the concerns and pressures that no academic institution could teach.
Studying on her own, she registered and passed the intimidating Enrolled Agent Exam given by the Internal Revenue Service, similar to the CPA test with an emphasis on Federal Tax Law.
Strategies that involve bookkeeping techniques, as well as other applications of tax law, became familiar friends, as she gained a following of clients from various sectors and various states.
